Golden Globe GLEH Glee!

And where would you expect Julie to be for the Golden Globes? Getting her own "Lifetime Achievement" award at the "Golden Globes Viewing Gala," an event organized by GLEH (that's the "Gay and Lesbian Elder Housing" group). As the name implies, they're an advocacy group concerned with the needs of older members of the LGBT community. Julie, twice nominated for Golden Globe honors, was chosen "for her lifelong contributions to the entertainment industry and LGBT advocacy..." a "straight ally" in the fight for equal rights. Taking place at the Jim Henson Lot during the actual Golden Globes show (available to guests via live streaming), Julie's award will be presented by George Chakiris.

New Catwoman? Darwin Was Wrong...

Seems like every time there's a new Catwoman, everyone comes scampering to Julie! She's once again getting interview requests from journalists wanting the opinions of the original (and usually proclaimed "best ever") Catwoman.

From Booth Moore, LA Times: "Who was the best Catwoman...My money is on first feline Julie Newmar...she understood sex appeal."

The New York Post (July 15) agreed and asked, "let’s face it, doesn’t sexuality have something to do with the popularity of the character?" They printed her reply:

“Hello? What kind of dumb question is that?” says Newmar, who designed her own costume when she played Catwoman on TV from 1966-67. “I won’t even answer that.”

Speaking of costumes, poor Anne Hathaway did have a struggle to look good in hers. The Post notes she needed a special trainer and diet, and quotes her: “If you had to wear a cat suit in front of the entire world, I guarantee you would get your butt to the gym.”

Julie's not proprietary about the role. She's always welcomed the new gal on the block or litter box. Another Post quote:

"“Of course Catwoman is more popular than Batman,” Julie Newmar, who played the character in the 1960s TV series, tells The Post. “Catwoman’s her own boss, she makes up her own mind. Catwoman will go on just about forever.”

Catwoman Julie: LICENSED to THRILL

It's official! Authorized Batman 1966 merchandise could be turning up at a store near you!

WBCP (Warner Bros Consumer Products) will have a booth at the "Licensing Expo" convention in Las Vegas (June 12-14th). They've struck deals with DC comics and 20th Century Fox, and will be meeting with toy manufacturers and t-shirt makers and others who'd like to add a little ZAP and POW to their catalogs.

Julie says there have already been talks about a Catwoman action figure.

Maybe it'll have a talking-chip inside, with some favorite phrases like: "You can brush my pussy willows before you leave. And don't go against the fur." "I know...we'll kill him!" "Ah, my tenacious teenager, you have a lot to learn." "The early-cat catches the batman." "Heroines are to be seen, not heard." "If I were to kiss you, would you think I was a bad girl?" "Your eardrums will shatter and your brains will turn into yeccch!"

Stupefyin' Schubert Alley Cat!

Well, this comes as no surprise, but it's amusing to see: "“I used to watch Julie Newmar, who played Stupefyin’ Jones, walk the length of 44th Street with the eyes of every trucker from The New York Times following her." So says autograph hound Alan Perna, who used to troll Shubert Alley (between West 44th and West 45th) where Broadway stars and celebs in town for business and a dinner at Sardi's would be easily found. An article on him appears on a blog at the New York Times website: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/28/when-the-stars-roamed-shubert-alley/

Comforting Words in these times of Rape, Murder or Natural Disasters

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IN THIS PHYSICAL TIME/SPACE REALITY OR ANYWHERE ELSE. LAW OF ATTRACTION DOES NOT PROMOTE INJUSTICE. IT AMPLIFIES THE VIBRATION THAT IS WITHIN YOU.

Leafblowers: The Evil Wind

"Leafblowers," William Shatner fumed, "is there anything more futile??" The line appears on his great CD "Has Been," and the track "I Can't Get Behind That." He's livid about how the serenity of being close to nature has been seared by the screaming drone of leafblowers…the laz-z-boy air hoses that now substitute for old-fashioned time-honored rakes. Julie, a guest-star on Shatner's "Star Trek," has a long track record of protesting against hot-air politicians who turn a deaf ear to noise pollution complaints. She's renewed her fight with TV appearances, and a recent letter to Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski.

"Life has become less and less livable in this city," Julie wrote on November 6th. "Millions of people…hate these leaf blowers and the continual battery to our lives and health." Catwoman took the councilwoman to task for the "public nuisance" of workers who "wander about in this brainless activity with a three foot extension on their masculinity…everyone hates it…sanity is the issue. Get rid of leaf blowers." Ever since Adam and Eve dropped their fig leaves and began populating the planet, the simple and easy answer to fallen flora has been to sweep it up, rake it up, gather it up quietly and efficiently. Technology's creation, the leafblower, is indeed "futile," blowing the mess around, making noise, using up gas or electricity.

The excuse gardeners give is that it's too "hard" to use a rake or a broom, and asking them to use old-fashioned elbow grease is somehow racist. Sad isn't it? How heavy are leaves? How difficult is it to quietly gather them up on a pleasant morning, rather than zoom around giving everyone a headache, and kicking up more dirt and dust than the Indy 500? "We need strong leadership," Julie writes. And that's why Julie is once again leading the fight, because the blow to the senses caused by these machines leaves much to be desired.

Hot book review for our "Witty Genius"

Watch out, with a review this glowing, your newspaper might spontaneously burst into flames. I'm talking about the Canyon News, with its heated praise for Julie and her new book:

"When a person meets Julie Newmar, you get the impression of an elegant, tall, sensual, intelligent, gorgeous and stylish lady in Tinseltown. However, after you read “The Conscious Catwoman: Explains Life On Earth,” you will come away from reading it and knowing for sure that on top of all of those things, she’s also a witty genius, whose infectious positive spirit has guided her through an amazing life and incredible body of work as an actress, and also you’ll know why everyone falls in love with the leggy beauty at first sight. This book is the must have for every home, every high school and every bookstore across America. Don’t walk to the bookstore to get her story. Run! Don’t walk!"

"...Julie has one of the highest IQ’s in the world, she’s a sophisticated and talented mime, she has the most gorgeous rose and flower gardens, she speaks her mind, she fights for the underdog and she is showing no signs of slowing down after a meteoric career rise that continues today.

"Her very concisely written book “The Conscious Catwoman” gives the reader life lessons; which is what Julie Newmar does best. 13 amazing chapters, under 75 pages, but filled with priceless anecdotal knowledge of her life and career, and the best advice that anyone could ever give you. From health and exercise to fashion and how to reach every goal you set for yours, this book is so well written and easily understood, that she could single handedly clean up Washington, D.C. and every dysfunctional family around America and the world.

"...my favorite chapter was How To Do The Impossible. Knowing Julie Newmar, it’s only impossible for the rest of us. She can do it all. Sing, dance, act, write! Yes, write she does, and this is just one of the many upcoming publications the beautiful and dynamic star will be penning. When you put this book down, you will realize what an awesome and extraordinary person Ms. Newmar is, and you will have no doubt in your mind why she’s one of the most unforgettable and elegant women on the planet...."

Julie visits KCAL9

No, KCAL9 isn't a robot friend of AF-709, it's a local TV station.

Julie appeared the other day to promote her new book, touching on everything from turn-ons and tallness to Catwoman and Dale Carnegie.

The interview is still floating around on CBS Los Angeles' website:
